Granbury ISD has named Maggie Walton as the district’s Director of Strategic Initiatives, bringing 16 years of experience in education and a strong understanding of the district’s culture and strategic priorities. Walton will begin in this role at the conclusion of the 2025-26 school year.
Walton has served students and families at Acton Elementary School for the past 14 years, including serving as principal for the past four years. During her tenure at Acton, she helped foster a strong campus culture, strengthened partnerships with families, and supported high levels of academic achievement through collaborative leadership and a commitment to student success.
“Maggie Walton is a respected leader who deeply understands our schools, our people, and our mission,” said Granbury ISD Superintendent Dr. Courtney Morawski. “Her experience leading at the campus level, her commitment to building strong systems, and her passion for serving students make her an outstanding choice to help guide our strategic work across the district.”
As Director of Strategic Initiatives, Walton will lead the design, coordination, and implementation of districtwide priorities aligned to Granbury ISD’s four strategic focus areas: Student Achievement, Human Capital, Culture, and Stewardship of Resources and Facilities.
In this role, she will help ensure district priorities align with Board goals and the Strategic Plan by monitoring implementation, supporting innovative instructional models that improve student outcomes, strengthening leadership development and professional learning systems, and collaborating with campuses and departments to ensure efforts are coordinated, sustainable, and aligned with the district’s long-term goals.
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have spent the past fourteen years serving the Acton Elementary community,” Walton said. “The work we have accomplished together supporting students, partnering with families, and building a strong culture of learning and belonging has been deeply meaningful. The success of Acton has always been the result of an extraordinary team of educators who show up every day committed to doing what is best for children.
“Serving the students and families of Acton Elementary has been one of the greatest blessings of my life, and I will always treasure the relationships, memories, and high level of academic achievement we have experienced along the way. While it is bittersweet to step away from this role, I am incredibly excited to continue serving Granbury ISD in a different capacity as the Director of Strategic Initiatives. I look forward to supporting the district’s continued growth and helping advance the important work taking place across our schools.”
Walton holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Baylor University and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Texas Christian University. She also holds Texas principal and superintendent certifications and has completed leadership preparation programs through Lamar University.
Walton and her husband, Griffin, have been married for 17 years and are both proud graduates of Granbury ISD. Their three children — Baird (9th grade), Sawyer (7th grade), and Graham (5th grade) — all attend Granbury ISD schools.
Granbury ISD will soon begin the process of selecting the next principal for Acton Elementary School. The district will share updates with campus families as the search moves forward.
